How do I keep my cargo bike's brake cables from freezing?

In this climate, moisture can seep into your cargo bike's brake cables. This can happen to any type of cargo bike. Luckily, you can take measure to prevent this from happening so that you can use your cargo bike as usual, even on wintry days. Read our cargo bike tips for winter here.

Here are 5 tips from our mechanics to help you prevent frozen brakes:
Tip 1: At night, store your cargo bike in as warm a place as possible, preferably inside. Is this not possible for you for an entire night? Then bring your cargo bike inside the next morning for 30 minutes before you leave. This will allow any frozen brake cables to thaw.
Tip 2: In a hurry? Thaw the cables for the brakes and gears with a hairdryer!
Tip 3: When you're done with your cargo bike ride... Set the speed on your favorite gear (not too high and not too low). Then, if the gears freeze, you can still pedal.
Tip 4: If possible, try not to use your kickstand at night, as this might also freeze.
Tip 5: Make sure to test your brakes before getting on your cargo bike. Even if they're working, bike carefully, as they might still be slightly frozen.
